The finals of the thirteenth edition of the Young Enterprise Project (YEP), organised by Jonk Entrepreneuren Luxembourg (JEL), took place on Thursday 25 April 2024 at Melusina in Luxembourg-Clausen.

Of the initial 28 teams, five had been selected to participate in this final.

A total of 114 students from eleven different Higher Technician Certificate (BTS), coming from seven secondary schools, (Atert-Lycée Redange, School of Business and Management – ECG , Ecole d'Hôtellerie et de Tourisme du Luxembourg - EHTL, Lycée Technique d’Ettelbruck - LTEtt, Lycée Guillaume Kroll - LGK, Lycée des Arts et Métiers - LAM and Lycée Nic Biever Dudelange - LNB) participated in the Young Enterprise Project 2023-2024.

The YEP is a programme offered at the higher education level through which students must create, as a team, a business plan around an innovative idea for a product or service. Students study the feasibility of the project using tools such as the empathy map and the "Business Model Canvas" and develop a prototype and a commercial video.

Each team is accompanied by a coach from the professional world. One of the strengths of the programme is that it creates an exchange between students and experts in their field, the organisers noted. In addition to working on a business plan, students also learn lessons and get an idea of the world of work.

Several training courses were carried out this year. To support the teams in the initial phase of their project, the students were able to benefit from different training courses on the “Business Model Canvas” by nyuko, marketing by YUZER, resilience by RubixPotential, the creation of a website by ECOM LUX, financial management by Capital Group, video creation by Havé Films and “Pitch Training” sessions by Philip Grother, a presentation expert/coach.

Dominique Moeremans (ECG), Imene Guidoumi and Alyssa Caroff (Accenture), Grégoire Seron (Capital Group), Thibaut Ciccone (nyuko), Bastien Berg (Luxembourg City Incubator), Philippe Linster (House of Startups), and Sam Paulus and Jérémy Del Rosario (Microlux) formed the jury of the 2023-2024 edition and supported and evaluated the participating teams throughout the year.

For the final, which took place at Melusina, each group had four minutes to present their project to the jury.

3 winning teams

The “Check & Mate” team, who won the first prize, was made up of Channel Felt, Martin Biever and Morgane Santos Coelho, three BTS “Hospitality Management” students at the EHTL. The goal of their project was to offer a freemium application that allows students to find a job and help HORESCA players find workers. Students will be able to filter advertisements according to their availability and employers according to their needs, these filters may vary between working days and the desired working time, as well as with conditions that employers may request. The team’s teacher was Claudine Thoma; their coach was Elisabeth Frisch. Moreover, Martin Biever from the Check & Mate team received the Alumni Leadership Award presented by the Alumni committee. This prize is awarded to students who have demonstrated leadership qualities.

The second prize was awarded to the “CSpotRentals” team, made up of Julie Santoes, Mandy Melon, Ruben Andrade and Sam Lafleur from Lycée Nic Biever Dudelange, in the BTS “Digital Content”. CSpotRentals' mission was to create connections between owners and customers with their rental platform. On this platform, owners (businesses, local authorities or individuals) can make their studios available, or any other exclusive location that could interest their customers. This clientele is made up of amateurs, whether photographers, videographers or musicians looking for a place conducive to the creation of their content. The team’s teachers were Jessica David and Jeff Lemmer; the team’s coach was Tanyth Blackler.

The “BrainOn” team won third prize. The group was composed of Diogo Correira Martins, Max Santos Veloso, Thomas Basteiros Abrantes and Tiago Neves Pacheco, 4 BTS “Cloud Computing” students from Lycée Guillaume Kroll. Their goal was to develop a user-friendly web platform designed to help people with limited computer skills. This platform aims to provide a direct interface for users to effortlessly upgrade their personal computers or explore options for purchasing pre-configured or customisable IT solutions. The team’s teacher was Marc Schmit, while its coach was Jesper Dissing.

Offered at the higher education level, the YEP is aimed at young BTS and university students between nineteen and 30 years old. Teams of two to five students are formed at the start of the school year. Together, they must create a business plan based on an innovative idea for a product or service.
