On Monday 30 March 2026, SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde reported that it recently received a donation from the Lycée Classique de Diekirch (LCD).
One week ago, on Monday 23 March, the secondary school's non-profit organisation LCD Solidarité held its traditional Solidarity Day ("Journée de la Solidarité).
In 2026, the focus of this initiative, which aims to raise awareness among teenagers about the importance of social cohesion, was the third-year lower ("5e") classes. To this end, the school invited five associations for a morning of discussions. Among them was SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde, represented by Director Sophie Glesener Director and Events and Sponsorship Coordinator Sonia Dos Santos.
The students participated in workshops on various topics such as children's rights, the situation of refugees in Luxembourg, and the environment. Each participating organisation visited two classrooms, after which the students met with their guests in the school hall for a discussion.
In the two classrooms where they were hosted, Sophie Glesener and Sonia Dos Santos spoke about the various ways to get involved with SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde, particularly through volunteering, and presented the organisation's current projects in about fifteen countries around the world.
At the end of the morning, each participating organisation received a cheque for €3,000.
In total, €15,000 was raised and distributed thanks to the commitment of the LCD's students, teachers and school community.
Sophie Glesener and Sonia Dos Santos expressed their gratitude to the school for its continued support. The donation will go to a major educational project underway in Ait Ourir in Morocco: a co-educational school for 500 students and a boarding school for 50 girls, established following the 2023 earthquake. Construction is progressing well, and the facilities should be ready to welcome students for the start of the next school year, according to SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde.
