On Tuesday 14 July 2026, Luxembourg’s authorities issued a reminder to residents of the increased risk of vegetation and forest fires.

The announcement from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of the Economy, Water Management Agency, Nature and Forest Agency, Administration of Technical Agricultural Services, Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps, MétéoLux and the Air Navigation Administration noted that given the weather conditions of recent weeks, a simple moment of inattention can be enough to start a fire.

In this context, they urged residents to remain vigilant and act responsibly by following the recommended safety measures below:

• Do not throw cigarette butts on the ground.

• Do not light fires outdoors.

• Limit barbecues to designated areas and keep firefighting equipment nearby (e.g. a container filled with water).

• Do not throw barbecue embers into nature. Wait until the embers have cooled before disposing of them in the designated areas.

• Do not drive cars through meadows, fields or forests, as both potential sparks and the hot underside of vehicles can potentially cause a fire.

• Do not block access to forest paths or fields, in order to ensure that firefighters can reach the area in the event of vegetation or forest fires.

• In the event of a fire, move to safety, quickly alert the emergency services by calling 112, specifying the location (forest emergency point, if available) and indicating access routes for firefighters when they arrive at the scene.
