On Friday 26 and Saturday 27 June 2026, the Grand Ducal Police carried out several alcohol screening operations at the request of the State Prosecutor in Sanem, Bettembourg, Luxembourg and Alzingen.
The first check took place on Friday between 22:00 and 23:30 on Rue d'Esch in Ehlerange (municipality of Sanem), where 167 motorists underwent preliminary breath tests. Four tests were positive, resulting in one on-the-spot fine, three official reports and one confiscated driving licence.
At the same time police also carried out checks on Rue de Trèves in Luxembourg-Findel. The operation continued on Saturday between 00:30 and 01:30 on Route d'Esch in Luxembourg-Gasperich and between 02:30 and 03:30 on Route de Thionville in Alzingen. During these checks, police tested 245 motorists, from which twelve positive breath tests resulted in six on-the-spot fines, six official reports and two driving licences being confiscated.
Police also recorded ten irregularities relating to vehicle documents, four technical defects and two cases in which official reports were drawn up for driving without a valid licence or in breach of a driving ban.
Separately, between 00:30 and 02:00 on Saturday, police conducted another alcohol screening operation on Route d'Esch in Bettembourg. Of the 289 motorists tested, four returned positive breath test results, leading to two on-the-spot fines and two official reports. No driving licences were confiscated during this operation.
