Luxembourg's national railway company, the CFL, has announced the resumption of train services from Monday 15 September 2025 following summer works on the rail network, the Luxembourg–Bettembourg line and the Howald transport hub.

CFL noted that, as in previous years and given the scale of its multi-annual works programme, further infrastructure projects will continue in the future. During the summer works, CFL put in place a replacement bus service, with more than 1,100 journeys operated daily by over 200 drivers.

According to CFL, the opening of the new Luxembourg-Bettembourg line in September 2027 will allow the full separation of traffic on the Luxembourg-Esch/Alzette-Rodange and Luxembourg-Thionville-Metz lines between Bettembourg and Luxembourg, including at the Howald hub. As part of these preparations, the existing line was connected this summer to the new platform II at Howald. Trains on the existing Luxembourg-Bettembourg line will now use this alignment to reach Luxembourg Station.

Timetables have been adjusted by a few minutes across several routes, including the Luxembourg-Esch/Alzette-Rodange line, the Luxembour-Thionville-Metz line, the Rodange-Esch/Alzette-Luxembourg-Troisvierges line and TGV connections to and from Luxembourg Station. The Howald stop will also now be systematically served by the direct train between Volmerange-les-Mines and Luxembourg Station in both directions.

In cooperation with the Luxembourg's Ministry of Mobility and Public Works, the Grand Est Region and SNCF Voyageurs, CFL added that a train offering around 1,000 seats will run once a day in the evening (17:15) between Luxembourg and Metz. This additional capacity has been made possible through the extension of platforms at key stations along the Lorraine corridor and the expansion of CFL’s rolling stock.

CFL advised passengers to consult detailed timetables on cfl.lu or via the CFL mobile and mobiliteit.lu applications.
