On Tuesday 24 March 2026, Luxembourg’s national railway company, the CFL, announced that from Saturday 28 March to Sunday 12 April 2026 (inclusive), several rail lines will be impacted by maintenance works carried out to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers and staff.
According to the CFL, train services will be suspended on various sections of the Luxembourg – Esch/Alzette – Rodange, Luxembourg – Ettelbruck – Troisvierges – Gouvy and Luxembourg – Kleinbettingen – Arlon lines, mainly during periods of lower passenger traffic, in order to allow for faster execution of works while maintaining optimal safety levels.
To ensure continuity of travel, the CFL will provide a significant replacement bus service. Passengers may also use regular RGTR and TICE bus services. The CFL recommends allowing an additional travel time of 10 to 15 minutes due to possible road traffic disruptions.
Luxembourg – Esch/Alzette – Rodange Line
From Saturday 28 March to Sunday 12 April 2026 (inclusive): No trains between Bettembourg and Esch/Alzette, between Rumelange and Noertzange, and between Audun-le-Tiche and Esch/Alzette.
Replacement bus services:
Bus L62 (direct) Luxembourg (Bus Station) – Esch/Alzette
• Peak hours: departures every 15 minutes / Off-peak: every 30 minutes
Bus L60 (all stops) Bettembourg – Esch/Alzette
• Departures every 30 minutes
Bus L66 (all stops) Esch/Alzette – Audun-le-Tiche – Belval Université
• Departures every 30 minutes
Passengers travelling to/from Rumelange, Tétange and Kayl may also use:
• Bus 508 (Luxembourg, Rocade – Ottange (F))
• Bus 601 (Luxembourg, Centre – Ottange (F))
The CFL noted that track renewal works will take place between Bettembourg and Scheuerbusch over a distance of 7.8 km, including the replacement of 15.6 km of rails, 13,000 sleepers and 6,000 tonnes of ballast. Maintenance and cleaning works will also be carried out at several stations and stops along the line.
Luxembourg – Ettelbruck – Troisvierges – Gouvy Line
From Saturday 28 March to Sunday 12 April 2026 (inclusive): No trains between Luxembourg and Ettelbruck and between Luxembourg and Diekirch.
Replacement bus services:
Bus L10 Limpertsberg (Boulevard Paul Eyschen) – Ettelbruck
• Departures every 30 minutes
• Easily accessible by tram (Theater stop)
Bus L11 (direct) Luxembourg (Rocade) – Mersch
• Departures every 30 minutes
Bus L12 (direct) Luxembourg (Rocade) – Ettelbruck
• Monday to Friday (peak hours): departures every 10 to 15 minutes
Bus L13 Kirchberg (Luxexpo) – Ettelbruck via Mersch
• Monday to Friday: departures every 30 minutes
• Easily accessible by tram (Luxexpo stop)
The CFL added that further track renewal works will be carried out between the Pulvermühle and Niedergrünewald viaducts, as well as between Lorentzweiler and Lintgen. Works will also continue on the removal of level crossing PN13 in Dommeldange, including the installation of an underpass for pedestrians and cyclists.
Luxembourg – Kleinbettingen – Arlon Line
From Saturday 28 March to Sunday 12 April 2026 (inclusive): No trains between Luxembourg and Arlon.
Replacement bus services:
Bus L50 Luxembourg – Kleinbettingen – Arlon
• Departures every 30 minutes
Bus L52 (direct) Luxembourg – Arlon
• Departures every 30 minutes
The CFL noted that maintenance works will also take place on this line, particularly in the Belgian-Luxembourg border area, including the replacement of sleepers and track stabilisation works. The closure will also allow the Administration of Bridges and Roads to carry out rehabilitation works on a structure near Capellen.
