On Friday 12 December 2025, Luxembourg's national railway company, the CFL, issued a reminder that new timetables and train service adjustments would come into effect on Sunday 14 December.
The CFL recalled that the second Sunday of December is the traditional date for timetable changes by railway companies in Europe.
In addition to adjustments to departure, stop and arrival times aimed at improving punctuality and overall service quality, the CFL will introduce, starting 14 December, an expanded train service between Noertzange and Rumelange on the Northern line and between Luxembourg City and Libramont (Belgium).
To promote rail travel in the Käldall region and improve its connection to public transport, the CFL will significantly increase the number of trains running between Noertzange and Rumelange. From 14 December, this number will increase from seven per day to two per hour during peak times (between 06:00-08:00 and 16:00-19:00) and one train per hour outside peak hours.
Particular attention has been paid to train connections at Noertzange station to facilitate onward journeys for passengers travelling to Luxembourg railway station (Gare de Luxembourg). Together with changes introduced by the Public Transport Administration, the enhanced train offer complements improvements to bus services in southern Luxembourg.
From the timetable change, the CFL will also operate more trains on weekends and public holidays on the Luxembourg – Ettelbruck – Troisvierges – Gouvy line. Previously limited to the period from April to September, this additional service will now be available throughout the year.
Passengers will benefit from four trains per hour between Luxembourg and Ettelbruck, including two trains per hour between Luxembourg and Troisvierges, on weekends and public holidays all year round. The CFL said the move responds to growing demand from leisure travellers and cyclists wishing to explore northern Luxembourg.
To facilitate travel for cross-border workers travelling from Belgium, the CFL, in cooperation with the SNCB, will introduce a faster, direct journey between the Luxembourg and Libramont stations from 14 December. Several regional trains that previously only ran between Luxembourg and Arlon (and vice versa) will be extended to Libramont. These trains will serve the stations and stops of Luxembourg, Bertrange-Strassen, Mamer-Lycée (during the school term, Monday to Saturday, 07:00-20:00), Mamer, Capellen, Kleinbettingen, Arlon, Viville, Stockem, Habay, Marbehan, Neufchâteau and Libramont. The CFL noted that this change will reduce travel times for passengers travelling to / from Arlon who previously had to change trains there.
Passengers are advised to check whether their train schedule has changed and to explore new travel options via the timetable search on www.cfl.lu or via the CFL or mobiliteit.lu mobile applications.
