The Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Luxembourg City hosted a solemn Te Deum mass on Sunday 5 October 2025, bringing the "Trounwiessel" (throne transition) weekend to a close.

Presided over by Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich, the service began around 11:00 and lasted just under two hours, with around 1,000 guests in attendance. Among them were members of the Grand Ducal family, government ministers and MPs. Choral music and liturgical works marked the occasion.

Cardinal Hollerich praised Grand Duke Guillaume’s first days on the throne, highlighting his visits across the country and exchanges with its people - a sign that he was starting his reign with "spirit and heart". He noted the Grand Duke’s desire to build connections between the past, the present and the future, recalling how he had been prepared for his role from a young age.

He emphasised the importance of continuity but also hope for the future. “Young people are our future,” he said, noting the need to continue working together to solve problems in an uncertain world. He emphasised the role of the Grand Duke in this area and assured him: “We stand by you”.

The service ended with all attendees standing to sing the national anthem (Ons Heemecht).

The mass followed a day of nationwide celebrations on Saturday 4 October 2025, which culminated in spectacular Red Bridge performances, a drone show and concerts at Glacis in Luxembourg City.
