The Optimists Cricket Club (OCC) has announced that as part of its events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the club, it will host a special match at 13:00 on Sunday 7 June 2026 at the Pierre Werner Cricket Ground in Walferdange, which will feature former English international cricketer Mudhsuden Singh "Monty" Panesar.
The OCC said: “The team has been selected to reward the hard work and dedication shown towards the club over many years by these members,” and that everyone is welcome to come down and watch the match.
Food and refreshments will be available on site.
The OCC will also host Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) for a T20 match on Friday 5 June, starting at 18:00 at the Pierre Werner Cricket Ground in Walferdange, with a BBQ from 17:30 and a fully stocked bar available.
On Saturday 6 June, a 40-over match will take place at the same venue, starting at 10:30, with curry, BBQ and drinks available throughout the day, alongside various activities including bat-making demonstrations and a bouncy castle.
This will be followed by a 50th anniversary celebration dinner which will be held in the evening at Porta Nova, featuring guest speaker Lord Ian Botham, widely regarded as one of England’s greatest all-rounders of the 1980s. He will deliver a speech followed by a Q&A session featuring former England players Matthew Hoggard and Monty Panesar. Please note that this event is sold out.
