On Thursday 12 February 2026, the Davis Cup draw took place, confirming that the SEAT Lëtzebuerg Davis Cup Team will face Hungary in a home World Group I tie scheduled for September.
The tie, scheduled to take place from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 September 2026, will mark the next step for Gilles Muller’s team following their victory over Ukraine in the Davis Cup World Group I Play-Off last weekend.
In a comment to Chronicle.lu, team captain Gilles Muller described the draw as a tough one, noting that Hungary have two players ranked inside the world’s top 50. “It’s not the best draw,” he said, but added that he was pleased Luxembourg will play at home: “I think the support from the crowd can maybe help us to surpass our limits.”
Hungary currently have two players ranked inside the ATP top 50: Fabian Marozsan (ATP ranked #46) and Marton Fucsovics (ATP ranked #49). The latter did not feature in Hungary’s most recent Davis Cup tie in February 2026, when they faced the USA and lost 0-4, while Fabian Marozsan represented the team in that encounter.
Luxembourg’s number two Alex Knaff (ATP ranked #683) also shared his thoughts with Chronicle.lu, describing the upcoming tie as a major occasion for the team. “I think for Luxembourg it’s going to be a big tie. It’s going to be at home. I’m not sure we’ve ever played such a big tie at home, so once again, it’s going to be new territory for us, but it’s going to be a challenge and we’re all looking forward to it,” he said, adding that both he and teammate Chris Rodesch are excited about the encounter.
Supporting the captain’s assessment of the challenge ahead, Alex Knaff noted that Hungary have “two top 50 players, so excellent players,” but stressed that Luxembourg have previously shown they can compete strongly on home soil: “We’ve shown in the past that at home we can compete against very good players. If we all stay healthy and we can play good doubles, I think anything is possible.”.
Luxembourg’s top-ranked player, Chris Rodesch, is currently ranked in 139th place in the ATP singles rankings.
