On Monday 22 December 2025, the City of Luxembourg (Ville de Luxembourg - VdL) announced the introduction of three new trails in the Bambësch forest.
Luxembourg City Mayor Lydie Polfer and Chief Alderman (Deputy Mayor) Maurice Bauer shared the news with journalists during the VdL's final "City Breakfast" of the year.
As part of its initiatives to promote citizen well-being and following the "Urban Forestry" survey conducted in 2023, the VdL has developed three new trails in the heart of the Bambësch forest.
The difficulty level ranges from blue to black (like ski runs), allowing everyone to choose a route suited to their abilities. The three trails can be combined to cover distances of 20 to 30 km:
- Trail 1 (blue): 10.5 km – 145 m elevation difference
- Trail 2 (red): 10.2 km – 138 m elevation difference
- Trail 3 (black): 10.2 km – 168 m elevation difference
The three trails follow some of the "most beautiful" paths in the Bambësch and are accessible from the main parking areas: Laftreff/ Batterie/ Spora, Juegdschlass, Maison B, Siwweburen, Kaleknapp and the Bridel parking area. Clear signage and information panels have been installed by the VdL's forestry department to guide visitors.
As part of its "Smart City" strategy, which aims to use new technologies to offer innovative tools in various fields, the VdL has partnered with the Luxembourgish startup LuxTechSystems SA, the creator of the free LetzTrail app. This application allows users to discover geolocated routes, including the new Bambësch trails. In a few clicks, users can locate the starting point, launch the route and track their time and distance in real time. They can also share their achievements, create or join communities and organise sports outings.
The VdL added that this project is "fully aligned" with its strategy to promote physical activity and enhance the well-being of residents, while also showcasing the natural heritage of the Bambësch.
