With the end-of-year festivities getting underway, Chronicle.lu is compiling a series of articles exploring some of the Christmas markets taking place across the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

Many smaller local Christmas markets across Luxembourg open for just a single day or weekend, while larger events in cities such as Luxembourg City and Esch-sur-Alzette typically run for several weeks.

This article focuses on the latter, namely the "Escher Krëschtmoart" in Esch-sur-Alzette, which ran for more than a month, from Friday 14 November to Sunday 21 December 2025. The Christmas market was located in the pedestrian zone in the city centre, on Place de l'Hôtel de Ville, and featured around 24 chalets alongside a single stage for live performances.

The stage hosted a wide range of local artists and ensembles representing different musical styles, including acoustic, pop, jazz, swing, choral music and brass. Live performances were generally scheduled from Friday to Sunday, typically taking place between 17:30 and 19:30. The programme featured acts such as Pushin' Daisies, Duo Zanella, Kevin Heinen, Marco Boesen, Harmonie des Mineurs, Singing Ladies Mondercange, Diamond Dogs, Hands on Mars, George Philippart & Friends, Scarlett, Waves in the Water and Big Music Band OGBL, among others, contributing to a diverse musical lineup over the course of the market.

Beyond its duration, the Escher Krëschtmoart was characterised by a compact yet varied offering with a strong emphasis on local produce, festive food and family-friendly attractions. Visitors could choose from a wide range of seasonal specialities, including mulled wine and eggnog, soups, waffles, crêpes, roasted chestnuts and the traditional Luxembourgish potato fritters "Gromperekichelcher". Other food options included chocolate-covered fruit, cheese specialities, sausages and raclette.

In addition to gastronomy, stalls offered decorations, handcrafted items, clothing, accessories and toys, while a carousel and a large traditional Christmas pyramid provided additional attractions for families.

Seasonal lighting and decorations formed part of the market's visual setting in the centre of Esch-sur-Alzette throughout the Advent period.

Chronicle.lu visited the market on Saturday 13 December around lunchtime, when it was relatively calm, as live music performances would usually take place later in the afternoon and evening. At that time, visitors were mainly gathered around the chalets, enjoying food and hot drinks rather than the entertainment programme.
