On Monday 2 June 2025, Luxembourg's Brasserie Nationale, also known as the Bofferding Brewery, announced the launch of new eco-friendly packaging for its Battin IPA and Battin Fruitée beers, now available in 50cl aluminium cans sold in four-packs.
These packs come without plastic film and instead use recyclable cardboard, reducing plastic use by approximately two tonnes annually, according to the brewery.
This launch reflects the ongoing shift towards the can format, which continues to grow in popularity due to its “practicality, lightness and ability to preserve beer freshness", noted Brasserie Nationale. By introducing these products in 50cl cans, Battin aims to meet evolving consumer expectations while reinforcing its presence in “a modern and expanding segment”.
In addition, Battin’s iconic Gambrinus and Blanche varieties, already available in 50cl cans, are now also adopting the new recyclable cardboard packaging - described by the brewery as “a tangible step” towards reducing plastic use and lowering the brand’s environmental footprint.
Brasserie Nationale emphasised the advantages of aluminium cans, noting they are “100% infinitely recyclable”, cool quickly for optimal enjoyment, protect beer from light to ensure better preservation, and are both lightweight and unbreakable - making them “ideal for convenient consumption”.
“We are proud to combine brewing tradition with responsible innovation. Switching to cardboard packaging for our can packs reflects our commitment to a more sustainable future while responding to new consumer habits,” said Isabelle Lentz, CEO of the Munhowen SA group.
The launch will be accompanied by a substantial media campaign, including outdoor, print and digital advertising, Brasserie Nationale noted. In stores, the new Battin IPA and Fruitée 50cl cans will be available from June, with what the company describes as a “very attractive promotional offer” for consumers: “Buy one pack, get one free.”
