On Monday 15 June 2026, the Municipality of Niederanven and Enovos inaugurated a new photovoltaic carport installation in Oberanven, designed to generate renewable electricity while making use of existing infrastructure.
The inauguration took place in the presence of Luxembourg's Prime Minister, Luc Frieden, Niederanven Mayor Fréd Ternes, government representatives, as well as project partners and invited guests.
According to Enovos, the carport was installed on the parking area of the Maison Relais, which remained accessible throughout the construction works. The project demonstrates how existing infrastructure can be adapted to accommodate renewable energy production without affecting its original use.
The company noted that the photovoltaic carport has an installed capacity of 519.72 kWp and is expected to generate approximately 500 MWh of green electricity annually. The electricity produced will contribute to the local power supply.
Enovos added that the installation is expected to avoid around 97 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year.
According to the partners, the project forms part of the municipality's broader efforts to promote sustainable development, reduce its carbon footprint and increase local renewable energy production.
“The energy transition is built through concrete actions and projects that create lasting value for citizens. This photovoltaic carport fully reflects that vision. It demonstrates our determination to act responsibly and to continue developing sustainable solutions for the benefit of our municipality and future generations,” said Fréd Ternes, Mayor of the Municipality of Niederanven.
The project was developed through close cooperation between the Municipality of Niederanven and Enovos. The partners highlighted the role of public-private cooperation in accelerating the deployment of renewable energy projects in Luxembourg.
“This project perfectly illustrates the evolution of our energy system towards a more local, decentralised model that is closer to local needs. Making use of existing infrastructure is an important lever for accelerating the development of renewable energy while preserving current uses. Niederanven shows that it is possible to transform climate ambitions into tangible achievements. We are proud to support municipalities that are so committed to their energy transition,” said Erik von Scholz, CEO of Enovos.
The company also said the new installation represents a further step towards a more sustainable, local and resilient energy system while contributing to Luxembourg's national energy transition and renewable energy objectives.
