On Saturday 27 September 2025, the eighth edition of the Luxembourg Kilt Walk will take place, with participants walking from Luxembourg-Grund to Mersch and back in aid of pancreatic cancer charities.
The event was conceived in 2017 by organiser Ross Steele, whose step-father succumbed to pancreatic cancer on New Year's Eve 2016. Initially, it was intended as a one-off event to raise awareness of the disease and to donate to ongoing research.
Since the first edition, the Luxembourg Kilt Walk has raised approximately €30,000 and has featured a multitude of nationalities donning the traditional Scottish kilt to raise funds for charity.
The walk begins at The Pyg Irish Pub in Luxembourg-Clausen and the route takes participants some 40 km up to the Boss Café in Mersch before returning to the start point.
Drawing on the Scottish heritage of both Ross and his step-father, the walkers are invited to make the event as striking as possible by donning their kilts for the occasion, although this is entirely optional. Some cyclists also take part, and, in their case, typically cycle the route twice.
After completion of the walk, there will be a BBQ, quiz and raffle at The Pyg to raise additional funds.
