The eighth edition of the LËTZ GO GOLD charity race took place in Luxembourg on Saturday 27 September 2025 and set a new fundraising record of €715,015 in support of childhood cancer research.
A total of 1,346 participants and 109 teams took part in this year’s race, organised by Fondatioun Kriibskrank Kanner, a Luxembourgish charity supporting children with cancer and their families.
This year’s race took place in Neudorf, next to the Henry Funck stadium, in the presence of Luxembourg’s Minister for Family Affairs, Solidarity, Living Together and Reception, Max Hahn, the First Alderman of the City of Luxembourg, Maurice Bauer, and the Mayor of Niederanven, Fred Ternes.
Participants were able to run or walk a 1.5 km, 5 km or 10 km route at their own pace, with musicians, artists and refreshment stands along the way.
At the end of the race, the best individual, professional team and family team fundraisers were recognised for their efforts.
Two researchers, Prof Gilles Vassal, who previously led clinical research at Gustave Roussy in France, and Dr Bassam Janji, who heads a team at the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH), presented advances made thanks to the foundation’s financial support, particularly in radiotherapy and medulloblastoma treatment.
Both emphasised the importance of private initiatives to complement limited public funding for paediatric cancer research.
Following a minute of silence in memory of children who had passed away, young participants unveiled the record fundraising total of €715,015, which will be fully dedicated to research projects.
Pierre Dochen, Director of Fondatioun Kriibskrank Kanner, commented: “Participants came in large numbers to discover the new Neudorf site. The village was beautiful and welcoming. Once again, we have been able to increase the fundraising total thanks to the generosity of the public, touched by this noble cause. All funds collected will be allocated to the best research projects selected. As the families say: ‘Running here means giving hope’.”
The solidarity race was also held the same weekend in Spain, Belgium and France, with all funds collected going to carefully selected research programmes based on their innovation, promise and collaborative approach. Even after the race, supporters can continue to donate via the platform www.letzgogold.lu, which will remain open until 31 October 2025.
The next edition of LËTZ GO GOLD will take place in Luxembourg on Saturday 26 September 2026.
