On Monday 22 June 2026, Luxembourg's employment agency, ADEM, reported that there were 19,674 resident jobseekers available for work at the end of May 2026, representing an increase of 1,205 individuals (or 6.5%) compared to May 2025.
This increase particularly affected the most highly qualified jobseekers. A year-on-year increase was recorded across all age groups, although growth was less pronounced than in previous months, particularly among jobseekers under the age of 30. The largest increases by profession were recorded in secretarial and administrative support, information technology and banking, ADEM noted.
The number of new resident registrations fell slightly. A total of 2,239 residents registered with ADEM in May 2026, representing a decrease of 32 individuals (or 1.4%) compared to May 2025. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate, calculated by STATEC, fell slightly from the previous month to 6.2%.
The number of resident jobseekers receiving full unemployment benefits decreased by 6.8% year-on-year to 9,842 as of 31 May 2026. Meanwhile, 4,627 residents benefited from employment support measures, representing an increase of 3.8% compared to May 2025.
ADEM also reported 4,144 available non-resident jobseekers at the end of May 2026, up 19.4% year on year. Of these, 2,433 had external professional redeployment status and qualified for the same financial support as residents, while the remaining 1,711 had registered voluntarily without being eligible for financial assistance. The latter group increased by 34.8% compared to May 2025.
The data also showed that, as of 31 May 2026, 1,018 non-resident jobseekers with external professional redeployment status were receiving full unemployment benefits, down 9.7% year on year. A further 1,827 received a waiting allowance (IA) or professional waiting allowance (IPA), an increase of 8.0% compared to a year earlier.
In May 2026, employers reported 3,049 job vacancies to ADEM, an increase of 7.6% compared to last year, mainly due to significant seasonal recruitment by a manufacturing company. The total number of available vacancies at the end of the month stood at 6,928, down 3.8% year on year. The strongest year-on-year increases were recorded in industrial cleaning, design and engineering, warehousing and materials handling, and paramedical care.
