On Thursday 25 June 2026, Stëmm vun der Strooss, the Luxembourg-based non-profit organisation supporting people experiencing homelessness and other vulnerable members of society, highlighted the eighth year of its "Action Nettoyage Quartier" (Neighbourhood Cleanup Action), an initiative that combines environmental improvement with social inclusion in Luxembourg-Gare.

According to the organisation, the initiative began in 2018 with six volunteers who set out to collect litter around its premises at 7 Rue de la Fonderie and in surrounding streets of the Luxembourg-Gare district. Every morning, participants walk towards Luxembourg Central Station along Rue de Strasbourg and Rue de Hollerich, collecting rubbish missed by municipal cleaning services.

Stëmm vun der Strooss noted that volunteers collect around three large bags of waste every day, including cigarette butts, bottles, syringes and other litter. The waste is then sorted in accordance with SuperDrecksKëscht guidelines using a dedicated collection cart.

Beyond improving the appearance of the neighbourhood, the organisation said the initiative offers people experiencing homelessness and those living in extreme poverty a structured daily activity while helping them strengthen social ties through active participation in the local community.

Wassim, who has been volunteering with the initiative for the past year, said: "First of all, the work brings me a sense of relief. I am someone who naturally dislikes untidiness. It bothers me to see litter on the neighbourhood streets. It is important that people know what we do at Stëmm vun der Strooss. Stëmm gives me the drive to want to work."

Charles Bechet, manager of the restaurant and day centre at Stëmm vun der Strooss's premises on Rue de la Fonderie in Luxembourg-Hollerich, added: "We are proud to contribute to the cleanliness of the neighbourhood through this solidarity action."
