On Wednesday 1 July 2026, Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden and Minister for Family Affairs, Solidarity, Living Together and Reception, Max Hahn, together with a representative of the General Coordination Unit of the Ministry of Health and Social Security, met with the teams from HELP and their partner organisations to thank them for their commitment in implementing the national heatwave plan.
The Ministry of State highlighted that in recent days, Luxembourg had experienced a period of exceptionally high temperatures, reaching up to 40°C, during which a Level 3 heat alert was in force from Thursday 18 to Tuesday 30 June. This required an enhanced mobilisation of all social, healthcare and voluntary sector organisations to protect the most vulnerable members of society.
To express their appreciation to the teams working on the ground, Prime Minister Frieden, Minister Hahn and the General Coordinator of the Ministry of Health and Social Security wished to personally acknowledge the work carried out by the professionals, volunteers and frontline workers who provided enhanced support to older people, those living alone, vulnerable individuals and people requiring care.
The ministry said that thanks to their availability, responsiveness and strong sense of responsibility, many people were able to receive the attention and support they needed throughout this period of extreme heat.
The ministry reported that the meeting provided an opportunity for the Prime Minister to express the Government's sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed during this exceptional period. He also reiterated that protecting the most vulnerable members of society remains an absolute priority during episodes of extreme heat. Thanks to the collective efforts of all those involved, Luxembourg was able to cope with this heatwave under the best possible conditions.
