On Tuesday 23 September 2025, the LISER Policy Lab will host the all-day event “Society in Motion: Science & Tools for Impact” at the European Convention Centre in Luxembourg-Kirchberg.

According to the Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER), the event is dedicated to addressing today’s most pressing socio-economic challenges and will showcase the scientific tools that can help decision makers design more effective policies.

Society in Motion: Science & Tools for Impact is described as a first-of-its-kind event in Luxembourg, one that strengthens the country’s ambition to be a role model in data-driven policymaking grounded in socio-economic and public policy research. Attendees are invited to embark on an immersive journey combining hands-on experimentation and live demonstrations of scientific insights. It will feature interactive activities showcasing innovative methods, data and tools in action, offering a unique opportunity to witness the translation of research into practice and the shaping of societal transformation through knowledge.

Twelve dedicated interactive spaces will host immersive and participatory activities, providing opportunities to engage directly with researchers. Projects will range from exploring urban development and mobility challenges through Living Labs, to examining the transformations in the labour market driven by technological change, to investigating the role of big data in shaping the future of work and development cooperation in tackling global poverty.

Other stands will focus on education, family life, inequalities, tax reforms and the connections between mobility, poverty, and climate change. Health will also be a key theme, with a stand dedicated to system performance and financing.

Moreover, there will be a presentation of advances in public policy evaluation and keynote addresses and panel discussions with leading figures from the worlds of research, policy and practice addressing some of the critical issues at the heart of our changing society.

“With shrinking budgets, the time is now to think about efficiency, evidence-based policies, and how to ensure that taxpayers’ money is well spent,” said Frédéric Docquier, Vice-Executive Director of LISER and Head of LISER’s Policy Lab. “Our work is about generating robust evidence and causal insights to measure the real effects of public action and helping policy makers craft the most cost-effective and impactful solutions. We have designed a truly immersive experience with dynamic panels and interactive spaces, to show how scientific innovation can directly support societal transformation. What we are offering is science you can touch, test, and debate.”

The event is free and open to the public, but prior registration is recommended.
