The Greek Cinema Club (Ciné-club hellénique de Luxembourg) has announced that it is organising screenings of the documentary The Red Teacher at Ciné Utopia in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg on Tuesday 27 January at 19:00 and Wednesday 28 January 2026 at 21:00.

The documentary (Greece, 2024, 100 mins, colour), written and directed by Stelios Charalampopoulos, will be screened in the original Greek version with English subtitles. It is not suitable for children under the age of sixteen.

Synopsis: The film portrays the life and death of Nikos Ploumpidis, one of the leading cadres of the Greek Communist Party (KKE) during the Second World War and the anti-Nazi resistance, arrested by the Greek post-Civil War authoritarian state in 1952, tried and executed in August 1954. Ploumpidis’ arrest followed the earlier arrest, trial and execution of Nikos Beloyannis, internationally known as the "man with the carnation". While Nikos Beloyannis was celebrated as a hero, Nikos Ploumpidis was accused by his own party of being a police informant and British agent; he was expelled and died isolated and discredited.

The mild rehabilitation of Nikos Ploumpidis by the Greek Communist Party in 1958, after the de-Stalinisation of KKE did not heal the trauma. His tragic story left a lasting impact not only on his family but also on the collective memory of Greek society.

Director and writer Stelios Charalampopoulos was born in 1956 in Athens, Greece. He is best known for Adis (1996), The Night When Fernando Pessoa Met Constantine Cavafy (2008) and The Signature (2010).

Tickets cost €6 for club members and €12 for non-members and can be purchased online via Luxembourg Ticket or at the cinema (cash only) 30 minutes before the screening.
