On Wednesday 1 July 2026, the National Youth Service (SNJ) held the 2026 edition of its annual Engagement Evening at Melusina in Luxembourg-Clausen.

The event, which welcomed around 300 attendees, was organised by the SNJ to thank and honour those who have committed themselves within the framework of the “Support for Transition to Working Life” division of the SNJ, such as voluntary service schemes, SNJ workshops and discovery internships. These included young participants and volunteers, as well as tutors or representatives of voluntary service organisations or companies supporting young people throughout their involvement in these programmes.

During the evening, Georges Metz, Director of the SNJ, and Nathalie Schirtz, Deputy Director of the SNJ, extended their congratulations to the young participants and their thanks to the professionals supervising them. The young people who engaged in the 2025/2026 year were awarded a “Champion of Engagement” trophy as an honour and reward.

As part of the event, several young people shared their experiences of voluntary service through video testimonials and live contributions. They all described the experience as unforgettable, deeply enriching and one they would wholeheartedly recommend to other young people.

The SNJ said these testimonies highlighted the tangible impact of voluntary service on their personal development and that his commitment helped them gain confidence, develop personally, take initiative and, for some, find a new direction. Those who spoke also emphasised how the experience broadened their outlook on the world by opening up new perspectives and encouraging them to take on new challenges.

The evening concluded with a drinks reception and light refreshments, allowing for exchanges between the various participants.
