On Friday 31 July 2026, the Luxembourg Gymnastics Federation confirmed that Luxembourg is an official candidate to host the 2028 European TeamGym Championships.
According to the federation, the European Gymnastics Executive Committee will decide this weekend, during its Executive Meeting, which country will host the 2028 edition of the championships.
Luxembourg is regarded as a strong candidate following the successful organisation of the 2022 European TeamGym Championships, which remains the largest edition of the event to date in terms of both participating athletes and European member federations.
The bid marks the third time the Luxembourg Gymnastics Federation has sought to host a major European gymnastics competition. According to the federation, the candidature once again highlights Luxembourg's reputation as a destination for international sporting events.
The bid is backed by a broad range of local stakeholders, including government institutions, the City of Luxembourg (VdL), public authorities and local businesses, reflecting what the federation described as a shared commitment to delivering a world-class championship.
The official decision is expected to be announced during the first week of August 2026.
Meanwhile, Luxembourg is also preparing to compete at the European TeamGym Championships, which will take place in Espoo, Finland, in October 2026. The Luxembourg delegation will be represented by two women's teams, competing in the Senior and Junior categories.
At the conclusion of the championships in Espoo, the traditional handover of the European TeamGym flag will take place, with the flag presented to the next host nation.
