The Luxembourg Red Cross, who works to improve the living conditions of vulnerable people, has launched its first edition of the Charity Kids Run, a sports, educational and fundraising initiative for children, with the opening taking place in Schifflange on Friday 19 June at 14:00, with the remaining runs scheduled for September and October after the summer break.
According to the national organisation, it is organising the event following the success of a pilot project held in October 2025.
Supported by its patron, Luxembourg sprinter Patrizia Van Der Weken, the inaugural season will include five runs across the country, held in a "fun and welcoming atmosphere".
The organisers said that the Charity Kids Run aims to encourage children to embrace the values of solidarity while learning basic first aid skills. Guided by volunteers and professionals, participants will be able to take part in an introductory workshop before joining a charity run.
During the event children will seek sponsorship from family and friends, with donations collected for every lap or kilometre completed. The funds will support the Luxembourg Red Cross's work for children and young people, including projects such as inclusive holiday camps, noted the organisation, adding that Patrizia Van Der Weken said she was proud to support a project that promotes sport and solidarity.
Dominique Hansen, Head of Communication and Fundraising at the Luxembourg Red Cross, commented: "With the Charity Kids Run, we want to show that solidarity can be learned from an early age and experienced in a fun and practical way. Seeing children get involved, learn life saving skills and commit themselves to helping other children is a great source of hope. This initiative fully reflects the mission of the Luxembourg Red Cross: to strengthen social cohesion and ensure that no one is left behind."
